Flor Avelino werkt bij het Dutch Research Institute for Transitions als assistent professor en senior onderzoeker naar de politiek van duurzaamheidstransities en sociale innovatie. Ze is gespecialiseerd in theorieën van macht en machtsrelaties en heeft in het bijzonder interesse voor translokale netwerken en innovatieve bewegingen die zich richten op het oplossen van sociale uitdagingen.
 
Als wetenschappelijk coordinator van het TRANSIT project was ze één van de initiefnemers van het Transformative Social Innovation Manifesto. Als wetenschappelijk directeur van DRIFT’s Transition Academy, streeft Flor naar de cocreatie van nieuwe leeromgevingen, om mensen uit te dagen anders te denken, doen en organiseren – en zo radicale en transformatieve verandering te bewerkstellingen.
