Sien is an economist, specialized in tackling social inequalities. Her work revolves around addressing complex societal challenges such as educational disparities and child poverty. Sien's primary strength is facilitating connections. Her approach focuses on leveraging creativity and analysis to translate complex societal issues into actionable solutions.
She earned her degree in economics from the Katholic University of Leuven, where she actively engaged in socially relevant organizations, particularly in the areas of education and sustainability. As the former Vice President of Academics for Development, she demonstrated her commitment to driving social impact through projects in social entrepreneurship. Building on her foundation in economics, Sien pursued an additional master's degree in social inequalities (sociology) at Erasmus University, specializing in the interaction between social disparities and the education system.
Before joining DRIFT, Sien worked as a researcher and consultant at Sardes (CAOP), where she gained experience in integrating policy, practice, and scientific knowledge to promote equal opportunities within the Dutch education system.
Sien's expertise in fostering sustainable networks and facilitating collaborations aligns with DRIFT's vision of accelerating change and co-creating innovative solutions. Her background in social inequalities positions her to analyze and address the root causes of social and economic challenges.
In her free time, Sien loves to be in nature or surrounded by her loved ones. You can find her swimming in Kralingse plas or hiking in the woods.
