Marte van der Veen Intern

vanderveen@drift.eur.nl

Marte van der Veen (she/her) is an intern researcher at DRIFT. In her seven years as a student at Wageningen University she has gained a strong basis in earth system sciences, with a focus on climate ecology and in general interactions between the biosphere, atmosphere and lithosphere. She is now shifting her focus from a natural sciences perspective on environmental issues (e.g. how does the radiation balance change due to climate change) to the social sciences lens of transition thinking, focusing on research and innovation and their role in eco-societal transformations. In DRIFT she is part of the Social Innovation Mission Facility project where she helps with identifying how the EU can harness social innovation to reach ambitious societal goals.

Marte, by friends sometimes referred to as a whirlwind of energy, gets her jitters out in outdoor activities such as sports climbing and contemporary dancing. She finds her peace smelling fresh grass, listening to birds and having cups of chai in a green student community in Wageningen.
