Emilinah Namaganda is a Postdoctoral Researcher interested in exploring alternative theoretical frameworks for advancing transitions from unsustainable systems, such as extractivism, toward more just and sustainable societies. At DRIFT, her research focuses on the social dimensions of sustainability transitions. She works on projects like the Social Innovation Mission Facility, advancing the valorization of social innovations within EU Missions that support Europe’s transformation into a more sustainable continent. She also contributes to research on balancing environmental, social, and economic objectives across EU policies.

A commitment to just and sustainable societies has been a consistent thread throughout Emilinah’s academic and professional journey. Before joining DRIFT, she pursued a PhD in International Development Studies at Utrecht University, investigating how the emerging impacts of energy transition-related extractivism can inform more just transitions. Prior to that, she worked at the Shared Value Foundation, strengthening relationships between large-scale development projects and host communities. Her professional orientation is shaped by her academic background in Environmental Science (Bachelor’s and Master’s) and Geography (Master’s).

Outside of work, Emilinah enjoys running in the green spaces near her home.
