The transitition to ‘gas-less’ neighbourhoods needs citizen-government participation

 
The Dutch national climate agreement prescribes a country in 2050 in which natural gas is no longer used for heating homes and companies. Such a drastic reimagining of residential areas cannot be pulled off by the government alone; citizen participation is needed. And this goes beyond citizen buy-in for policy: to accelerate the transition to neighbourhoods without natural-gas heating, the government has to create space for local initiatives on sustainable heating.
