Conference and Training on Transitions in the Agri-food Sector
01 Feb, 2017
From the 1-3rd of February 2017, the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) and the La Caixa Foundation offer a two and a half day training on “Transitions in the Agrifood sector” at the Palau Macaya in Barcelona. The programme combines open lectures and presentations, with an in depth training session for a smaller group of frontrunners within IRTA and foodsector stakeholders. The keynotes, presentations and discussions on the first and third day are open to the general public, so feel free to join us if you’re in the area of Barcelona!
The training brings together representatives from IRTA, the Catalan government, its universities and research centers, as well as the food industry. The objective is to create a common understanding of the theory of transition and transition management for a diverse group of stakeholders. More specifically IRTA would like participants to gain more insight in the participative methods of transition management by applying the theory to three thematic challenges with a smaller group of participants during the training.
On day one, the programme kicks off with keynote lectures by Derk Loorbach and PJ Beers on Transition Theory and Governance and discussions. Participants will learn about transition challenges and how different actors can contribute to achieve a disruptive change within a complex system such as the agrifood sector. After the plenary part of the programme, a smaller group of around 50-60 participants will continue in workinggroups, during which they’ll gain experience in applying transition management to three thematic challenges: water scarcity, food security, waste. After these in depth sessions the results will be presented to again a larger audience on the third and final day.
